Communication is not only about speech. It is about connection, understanding, confidence, and participation in the world.
My goal is to help children build communication in ways that respect who they are and how they learn.
I often work with children with a wide range of communication profiles, including children who may be difficult to understand, minimally speaking, navigating language or literacy challenges, or exploring Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
My work with children and families is collaborative and practical, shaped by more than 20 years of experience across early intervention, schools, and private practice.
Who I Work With
I work with children who may:
be difficult to understand or have significant speech sound differences
use only a few spoken words or be minimally speaking
use or benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
experience language or literacy challenges
communicate using scripts or echolalia while developing more flexible language
have communication profiles associated with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or other neurodevelopmental differences
Evelyn works with children and families to build communication that works in everyday life.
Her work is guided by a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally-responsive perspective, along with a commitment to ongoing learning and reflection. She believes communication is about much more than speech or language skills. It is also about helping children understand themselves, express their needs, connect with others, and participate more fully in their families, schools, and communities.
Her approach to assessment is dynamic and collaborative. Rather than relying only on standardized tests, Evelyn focuses on understanding how a child communicates in real interactions and works with families to identify meaningful goals so support can begin quickly.
Evelyn currently works as an AAC Speech Language Pathologist within a public school district, supporting students with complex communication needs and collaborating with educators and support teams. This experience informs her understanding of how communication developments is supported across home, school, and community environments.
With many years of experience supporting children across early intervention, schools, and private practice, Evelyn understands the complex path many families navigate when supporting communication needs across home, school, and community environments. She regularly collaborates with educators and has presented on speech sound disorders, developmental language disorders, literacy, AAC and gestalt language processing through district professional learning and Speech and Hearing BC. Her work on collaborative classroom practices was also featured in BC Teacher Magazine.
Evelyn is registered with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC and certified with Speech Language and Audiology Canada. She is also listed as a Registered Autism Service Provider (RASP) with the BC Autism Funding Unit.
